About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Data Platform Architect to play a pivotal role in shaping and evolving a modern enterprise data platform. This position is critical to supporting the delivery of the organisation’s data strategy through architectural leadership, governance oversight, and the design of scalable, secure, and future-ready data solutions.
The successful candidate will lead the transition to Microsoft Fabric, drive modern data architecture practices, enable advanced analytics and data science capabilities, and establish foundational data management and governance frameworks. This role will work closely with business and technical stakeholders to ensure the data platform supports organisational transformation, operational uplift, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Platform Architecture & Strategy
Provide architectural leadership and guidance for the next phase of the organisation’s data platform evolution.
Define and maintain the target-state data platform architecture aligned with enterprise architecture principles and business objectives.
Develop architecture blueprints, solution patterns, standards, and best practices for data platform services.
Guide teams through solution options, implementation approaches, risk assessments, and technical trade-offs.
Microsoft Fabric & Modern Analytics Enablement
Lead the migration from Power BI Premium Capacity to Microsoft Fabric Capacity.
Provide architectural oversight to ensure alignment with modern analytics platform capabilities.
Evaluate, enable, and support the adoption of Microsoft Fabric workloads, including:
- Lakehouse
- Data Engineering
- Data Science
- Governance
Drive proof-of-concepts (POCs), prototypes, and iterative validation activities to support platform adoption.
Data Lake & Data Warehouse Architecture
Review, redesign, and optimise enterprise data lake architecture to ensure scalability, performance, security, and governance.
Implement and promote Medallion Architecture principles to improve data utilisation and self-service analytics capabilities.
Lead enterprise-wide data modelling activities across conceptual, logical, and physical layers.
Design and optimise semantic models, enterprise data layers, and data warehouse structures.
Advanced Analytics & Data Science
Design data platform capabilities that support advanced analytics, machine learning, and data science workloads.
Enable integration between Azure data services and Microsoft Fabric Data Science capabilities.
Architect solutions supporting notebooks, feature engineering, scalable compute, and ML lifecycle requirements.
Lead the implementation of data science capabilities while ensuring alignment with the broader enterprise data architecture.
Data Governance & Management
Establish foundational data management capabilities, including:
- Data strategy
- Operating models
- Standards and policies
- Embed governance, security, lineage, metadata management, and data quality controls across the platform.
Support master data management, reference data management, and metadata management frameworks.
Implement and enhance data cataloguing, auditing, monitoring, and lineage capabilities.
Geospatial Data Integration
Design and review solutions that integrate geospatial data into the Azure data platform.
- Enable interoperability with GIS technologies including:
- ArcGIS
- ArcGIS Pro
- Azure Maps
- Ensure geospatial data services align with broader enterprise data architecture and analytics requirements.
Required Skills & Experience:
Technical Expertise
Strong expertise in Azure data platform architecture, including:
- Azure Data Lake Storage
- Azure Data Factory (ADF)
- Microsoft Fabric
- Fabric Data Factory
- Azure Databricks
Hands-on experience implementing and enabling Microsoft Fabric workloads.
Deep understanding of Medallion Architecture and Lakehouse design patterns.
Extensive experience designing and optimising enterprise-scale data lakes.
Strong data modelling expertise across conceptual, logical, and physical models.
Experience with semantic modelling, enterprise data models, and data warehouse architecture.
Expertise in Azure and Fabric-aligned modelling tools and methodologies.
Strong understanding of advanced analytics, machine learning, and data science integration patterns.
Experience with Azure Machine Learning and/or Microsoft Fabric Data Science capabilities.
Hands-on experience with:
- Microsoft Purview
- Fabric Governance capabilities
- Metadata management
- Data cataloguing
