Field Technician – Critical Communications Systems (NSW)
Location: Silverwater
Employment Type: Full-time
Travel: Newcastle and Wollongong is on average once a month respectively
On-Call: Rotational (every 3rd or 4th week)
About the Role We are seeking a skilled and motivated Field Technician to support critical communications systems operating within secure, mission-critical environments. This role involves providing hands-on technical support, maintenance, and troubleshooting across multiple government and emergency services agencies.
You will initially work alongside experienced technicians, gaining in-depth system knowledge before transitioning to independent field work.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide field-based technical support for console systems connected to secure networks
  • Support multiple government and emergency service agencies
  • Perform fault finding and troubleshooting across desktop, system, and network environments
  • Diagnose and distinguish between hardware, software, and network-related issues
  • Conduct planned and preventative maintenance activities
  • Ensure high system availability in live, mission-critical environments
  • Participate in an on-call roster delivering 24/7 support when required
Technical Skills & Experience
  • Strong experience with:
    • Windows operating systems
    • Desktop support and system troubleshooting
    • Basic networking concepts and diagnostics
  • Proven ability to:
    • Identify and resolve desktop hardware/software issues
    • Differentiate between network and system-level faults
  • Exposure to RF (Radio Frequency) systems
  • Experience with P25 communication systems (highly desirable)
  • Background in maintaining systems within operational or critical environments
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
  • Knowledge of networking equipment (e.g., Juniper and/or Cisco)
  • Open Cabler’s Licence (highly desirable)
  • Experience supporting emergency services or mission-critical operations
Location & Travel
  • Primary coverage area: Newcastle to Wollongong
  • Occasional travel required (typically day trips, approx. once per month)
  • Company vehicle provided
  • Full Australian driver’s licence required
Onboarding & Training
  • Structured onboarding with mentorship from senior technicians
  • Comprehensive training on systems and operational processes
  • Gradual transition to independent field responsibilities
Security Requirements
  • Australian Citizenship is mandatory
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance
